So Why The Thumbs Down For Facebook ?
Facebook have made 3 new updates to there News Feed algorithm on the 21st of April , and publishers and businesses with fan pages should be concerned about it .
It looks like Facebook has decided to move to more of an advertising platform than a social media site in the near future ,even after all these years of them stating that Facebook was not going to be a place where there users are bombarded with spam and advertisements they decide to do that themselves .
Here are the 3 major changes happening on Facebook
Facebook users will now be able to see more than one News Feed post from the same source in a row. Facebook’s algorithm previously prevented that. Facebook says it’s “relaxing this rule” so that users who don’t see much content in their feeds can start seeing more.
Facebook will start prioritising News Feed content posted by friends. “The second update tries to ensure that content posted directly by the friends you care about, such as photos, videos, status updates or links, will be higher up in News Feed so you are less likely to miss it,” Facebook writes.
It says you’ll still see content from news organisations and Facebook pages you enjoy though.
Facebook will begin hiding posts that say what your friends have liked or commented on. This sounds like it could really diminish a publisher’s second-hand reach. “This update will make these stories appear lower down in News Feed or not at all,” Facebook says.
Although these updates will affect most people that do have a legitimate business posted pages there , the people who these kind of updates are made to affect will likely find a new way to spam their links and products .
It looks like a big thumbs down for Facebook on this one !
